DR. KATE POTTER, PhD, MD, FRCPC

When people ask where I come from, I usually say Western Canada. I have lived in Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. I got my BSc. Hons, medical degree and my PhD from the University of British Columbia. I knew that I wanted to do work in endocrinology early in my training. My PhD work was on how insulin-producing cells function when they are transplanted (islet transplantation). During my time at UBC, I was also fortunate to spend time in Northern BC helping with diabetes research studies in kids, time at BC Children’s Hospital volunteering in the children’s obesity program, and spend a few amazing rotations on Vancouver Island spend a lot of time with a community pediatric endocrinologist. I did my general pediatrics training in Calgary at Alberta Children’s Hospital and my pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the University of Alberta. I missed the mountains so much, I decided to come back to Calgary for an amazing job in community pediatric endocrinology.
